The Los Angeles Dodgers announced a comprehensive $450 million renovation plan for Dodger Stadium on Wednesday, adding a retractable roof and significant fan amenity upgrades to the 63-year-old ballpark that will transform the venue into a year-round entertainment destination.
The project, expected to begin in late 2026 and complete by the 2028 season, will add a translucent roof covering the seating bowl while preserving the stadium's iconic view of the San Gabriel Mountains. The renovation also includes new premium seating sections, expanded concourses, and enhanced food and beverage offerings.
"Dodger Stadium has been the home of baseball excellence for over six decades, and this renovation ensures it remains a world-class venue for generations," said Dodgers President Stan Kasten. "The roof solves our weather challenges while maintaining the character that makes this stadium special."
The renovation will be financed through a combination of team investment and city bonds, with the Dodgers responsible for the majority of costs. Ticket prices are expected to increase to help fund the project, though the team has not announced specific increases.
Environmental groups have raised concerns about the stadium's impact on surrounding communities during construction, including noise and traffic during the three-year building process. The team has committed to mitigation measures.
The renovation places Dodger Stadium among major league teams that have recently upgraded facilities, including the Yankees, Cubs, and Giants, all of which have completed major ballpark improvements over the past decade.
