The NBA announced Tuesday that Las Vegas will host the All-Star Game beginning in 2027, marking the first time the league will hold the mid-season showcase in a market outside traditional basketball cities. The announcement was made during a ceremony at the newly constructed NBA Arena.
"Las Vegas has proven itself as a world-class sports destination, and our fans have embraced basketball at unprecedented levels," said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. "This partnership allows us to bring All-Star Weekend to a city that represents entertainment excellence."
The Las Vegas All-Star Game will join the traditional February showcase and the October in-season tournament final as the third major NBA All-Star event. The league will maintain its current February All-Star Game schedule for other host cities.
The announcement coincided with the opening of the $1 billion, 20,000-seat arena that will serve as the permanent home for the Vegas franchise and the All-Star venue. The arena features a retractable roof and state-of-the-art technology.
Local officials expect the All-Star Game to generate over $400 million in economic impact for the Las Vegas region. "This is a transformational moment for Las Vegas sports and tourism," said Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo.
Ticket pricing for the All-Star events has not been announced but is expected to command premium prices reflecting Las Vegas' reputation for high-demand entertainment pricing.
